Timeline

This is a timeline of the history of the world in Ys games.

The Ys wiki uses a unique dating system to indicate the timeline of events. BC is used to denote "Before Christin," and AC is used to denote "After Christin," which refers to the time before and after Adol Christin's birth, respectively. Although this system is not present in any of the games, it is used on the Ys wiki to make the relative dates of the games easier to understand.

Simplified timeline

The simplified timeline listed only the in-universe order of the games in the Ys series. Other important events and possible spoiler events are not listed here.

• 17 AC: Events from travelogue Ancient Ys Vanished (Ys I & II) and Lost Paradise of the Northern People (Ys X).
• 18 AC: Events from travelogue Great Forest of Celceta (Ys IV).
• 19 AC: Events from travelogue Felghana Archives (Ys III).
• 20 AC: Events from travelogue Kefin, Lost Kingdom of Sand (Ys V).
• 21 AC: Events from travelogue Travelogue of the Gaete Sea (Ys VIII).

Mythological Period

Epoch of time

• Maia's dream becomes a reality, thus created the world.
  • (Redux timeline) Maia reconstructed the world from the epoch of time until her awakening (21 AC).

Ocean Era

• Sea creatures flourish and build a civilization.
  • Hydra was selected by the Great Tree of Origins to be a Warden of Evolution.

Frozen Era

• Furred creatures flourish and build a civilization.
  • Minos was selected by the Great Tree of Origins to be a Warden of Evolution.

Insectoids Era

• Insect creatures flourish and build a civilization.
  • Nestor was selected by the Great Tree of Origins to be a Warden of Evolution.

Sky Era

• A race descended from the sky with power of mimicry. They flourish and build a civilization.
  • Ura was selected by the Great Tree of Origins to be a Warden of Evolution.

Eternian Era

• Saurian creatures flourish and build the Eternian civilization.
• Kingdom of Eternia is established on the Seiren Island.
• Io, the first Maiden of the Great Tree, built the Temple of the Great Tree and the Sanctuary Crypt.
• Ura mimics Sarai and become a friend of Dana and Olga.
• Dana was appointed to be the Maiden of the Great Tree.
• The Great Tree of Origins brings the Lacrimosa upon the Eternian people.
• Dana was selected by the Great Tree of Origins to be a Warden of Evolution. She refuses to accept the task from the Great tree, so she sealed herself away until the Adol's Time.

Eldeen Period

Colorless Age

• Winged beings settle on the Atlas continent.

Dark Age

• Technology to refine Emelas is established.

White Age (c. 1500 years prior)

• White Emelas is created.
• Winged beings replace their bodies of flesh and blood to bodies made of white emelas.
• Reproduction through magic becomes standardised.
• Winged beings achieve immortality.

Age of Chaos (900-1000 years prior)

• Sea level rises, many coastal areas in the Atlas Ocean submerged.
  • Migration of humans and demi-humans.
• Winged beings remodel their weather control unit, the Ark of Napishtim.
• Sea level rises again, causes Atlas continent to sink.
• Winged beings return to heaven.
• Ark of Napishtim goes out of control.
  • Human/demi-human collaboration succeeds in sinking the Ark.
  • The Great Vortex of Canaan is formed.
• Most remaining winged beings, demi-humans and humans flee to various parts of Eresia.
  • The rest stays behind, become inhabitants of Canaan Islands.

Human Period

Post-Eldeen Era (800 years prior)

• Winged beings cross continents.
  • Older winged beings return to Heaven.
  • Remaining winged beings decide to co-exist with humans.

The Beginnings of Ys

• Feena and Reah, two young winged beings, arrive in Ys with Black Pearl.
  • They were worshipped as 'goddesses'.
• Goddesses and the Six Priests start ruling over Ys.
• Six Priests' attempt to create Emelas leads to creation of Cleria.
  • Their imperfect control over Black Pearl gave birth to demons.

The Beginnings of Celceta

• Winged beings cross into Celceta.
  • These winged beings, their human followers and local population form the ancient Celceta dynasty.
• Civilisation of Celceta developed possessed great agricultural influence thanks to the Mask of the Sun.

Before Adol Christin's Era

c. 900-800 BC

• Kingdom of Celceta flourished.

c. 800 BC

• Ancient Kingdom of Ys is established.
• Demons threaten the Ancient Kingdom of Ys.
  • Ancient Kingdom of Ys rises into the sky.
  • The Construction of Darm Tower
• Eldeel and King Lefance's final confrontation on Colonia Battlefield.
• Kingdom of Celceta collapses.

c. 700 BC

• Events from Ys Origin

c. 600 BC

• The Hundred Years' War between Gllia Kingdom and Britai Kingdom start.
  • Balduq Cathedral is built.
  • Nors gods Grimnir and Luki both join this war of the humans.

c. 521 BC

• Rosvita is born as a normal farm girl.

c. 505 BC

• Rosvita was chosen by the Nors god Grimnir as his agent, and joins the army of Gllia. At the time, Gllia was losing the war.
  • Doll became sentient.

c. 504 BC

• Rosvita's action gave Gllia advantage in the war.

c. 503 BC

• One of the Heroes of Liberation, Xavier, died in the Defending ware of Balduq.
• Rosvita's army captured and liberated Balduq.
  • During the war, Rosvita was captured by the Britai Kingdom.
  • The Gllia royal family is jealous of her achievements, so they did nothing to rescue her.
  • In the end, the Inquisitor of Britai Kingdom found Rosvita guilty of heretic, and burned her.

c. 500 BC

• The Hundred Years' War between Gllia Kingdom and Britai Kingdom ended.
• Nors gods Grimnir and Luki both died in the Hundred Years' War. So is all the other Nors gods and demigods.
• Gllia royal family is forced to deal with the Grimwald Nox.
  • Zola starts his alchemic experiments to revive Rosvita.
  • Zola suggested to create the Monstrums to fight the evil spirit of Grimwald Nox.
  • Heros who fought with Rosvita answered to the Gllia royal family's request and become the base of Monstrums.
  • Fall of the Nors religion.
• Civil war in Celceta due to disputes over accumulated wealth.
• Lefance returns peace and is hailed as hero.
• Mask of the Sun goes out of control.
  • Lefance and his assistants seal it deep underground.
  • Celceta was soon covered in a dense forest.
• Kingdom of Kefin is sealed away in another dimension.

c. 279 BC

• Carlan family established by Arnos Zehar Carlan.

c. 177 BC

• Edonians move from Ruins Island and established Kingdom of Altago in Iskans' habitat.
  • Persecuted Iskans construct village in a pocket between world and hide.
• Iskan fever starts spreading.

126 BC

• Rollo was born into a Norman chief's family.

c. 150 BC

• Rollo met Lila Mistral.
• Rollo espablished the Principality of Northgard.
• Rollo's daughter Lana was born.
  • The Lana's Watergate was named after her.

c. 160 BC

• The Principality of Northgard was destroyed by the Griegers.
  • Rollo build multiple arks to fetch citizens away from the disaster.
  • Lana was entrusted with Tolstein Balta.
• Tolstein Balta established Carnac.
• Lila seals the Griegers in Serenes Island.

79 BC

• Captain Reed was sent to Isle of Seiren.

20 BC

• A Greek fisherman Sahad is born.

c. 11 BC

• Nikolas Garland is born.
• Romun Princess Griselda is born.

5 BC

• Frieda and Duren are born in the village of Danan.

4 BC

• Dogi and Chester Stoddart are born in Felghana.

3 BC

• Current Emperor of Romn, Marious is born.
• Hummel is born.

2 BC

• Ozma is born in the village of Selray.

c. 2 BC

• Irina Balta formed Balta Navy.

Adol Christin's Era

Before Adol's Adventure

0 AC

• The adventurer Adol Christin is born.
• Karna and Remnos are born in the village of Comodo

1 AC

• Geis is born in the village of Danan.

2 AC

• Laxia von Roswell is born.
• Leeza is born in Highland.
• Elena Stoddart is born in Felghana.
• Hawk is born in Balduq.

3 AC

• House von Roswell adopts war orphan Franz.
• Carla is born in Balduq
• Grimson and Iruna Balta accidently found Serenes Island, triggering the Greigers and caused Lila's seal to weaken. Iruna assist Lila to strengthen the seal, but she exhausted her mana and eventually passed away.

4 AC

• Calilica is born in Highland.
  • Leeza's parents die.
• Yufa is born in Balduq.

5 AC

• Tia is born in the Altago region.

7 AC

• Aisha is born in the Kingdom of Altago.
• Village on Genos Island is ravaged and destroyed.
• Mayor Edgar of Redmont adopts the orphaned Chester and Elena Stoddart.

8 AC

• Erdlingen War started.
• Krysha is born in Balduq.

9 AC

• Ricotta Beldine is born, possibly on the Seiren Island.
• Jules is born in Balduq.
• Zola disappeared to started his "magnum opus".
  • Aprilis left the four infant Monstrums (White Cat, Hawk, Raging Bull and Renegade) in the orphanage as war orphans to be adopted.

11 AC

• Dogi leaves Felghana for a journey of self-discovery.
• Silvia retires from her gladiator career.

12 AC

• Princess Eleanor of Gllia Kingdom is born.

13 AC

• Celceta comes under Romn control.
  • Althrough Carnac is consider part of Celceta, it is still under control of the semi-legal Balto Navy.
• Start of the Romun-Altaginian war.
• General Dreisen assumes office as head of Dragon Knights.
  • Mustafa succeeds General Dreisen as elder of Segram.
• Father of Olha and Isha and many other Rehdans loses their life defending Rehdan Village against Wandering Calamities.
• Leav starts living in Rehdan Village.
• Altago merchant Baslam is stranded on the Canaan Islands.

c. 13-16 AC

• Gruda, Ernst and some other members of the Clan of Darkness left the village of Danan in search of power.
  • Geis also left the village chasing after his brother
• Laxia passes by Griselda in Romn.

15 AC

• Stein found Niena in the Kefin Desert. He adopted her as his daughter.

16 AC

• Erdlingen War concluded.
  • Yufa's parents died around the end of the war.
  • Gllia general Bordon turned his back to Chatelard, causing Balduq to be fell by the Romn army.
  • Gllia becomes a province of the Romun Empire.
  • Princess Eleanor was taken in by her master and trained as an assassin, and renamed her Iris.
  • Margot starts the resistance force Bell of Freedom against the Romun government. The resistance force is made off family members of the victims in the war.
  • Margot saved Damian's wife.
  • Romn government put Balduq Prison into use.
• Romn exploratory ship sinks near Isle of Seiren.
• Chester and Elena Stoddart move out of Mayor Edgar's house.
• Bishop Nikolas becomes head pastor at Valestein Castle.
  • Father Jean Pierre succeeds Nikolas as priest in Redmont.
• Natalie moves to Casnan City.
• Adol Christin left his hometown and starts off his adventure around the world.

Adol's Adventure

17 AC

• Chatelard is disappointed with the Gllia Royal family, and started the Hieroglyph Knights in Balduq.
• Credo harmed a noble kid in Sunday school.
• The orphanage that Credo lived was burnt. Sister Lisa was killed in the fire.
• Stein went to Foresta Cave and disappeared.
• Adol arrived at Promalock.
• Events from the travelogue Ancient Ys Vanished.

c. 17~18 AC

• Griegers break from Lila's seal and in turn sealed her.
• Events from the travelogue Lost Paradise in the North.

18 AC

• Griselda is appointed the governor-general of Celceta.
• Events from the travelogue Great Forest of Celceta.
• Monsters started appearing in Felghana.
• Laxia's father abandoned his house and lands for his obsess with his research, causing riots in his land.
  • House Roswell was forced to relinquish its titles and lands.
  • Laxia von Roswell runs away from home.
• Adol starts to refer to himself as an Adventurer.

19 AC

• Events from the travelogue Felgana Archives.
• Thanatos Beldine washes ashore on Isle of Seiren.
  • Thanatos Beldine also takes in Ricotta as his adopted daughter.
• Sister Nia starts travelling around the Gaete Sea as a missionary.
• The number of prisoners in Balduq Prison start to increase.

20 AC

• Events from the travelogue Kefin, the Lost City of Sand.
• Tia arrives in Altago City and takes in Maya.
• Raba washes ashore on Canaan Islands.
• Credo joins the Church Knight.
• Smirnov Noah is imprisoned in Balduq Prison for unknown reason.
  • In fact, he is recruited by Chatelard to assist him with alchemy experiments.

c. 19-21 AC

• The serial killer, Nameless Ripper terrorizes Romn.

21 AC

• Terra starts working as an apprentice at the Tres Mares.
• Ord's son, Ur falls ill with an endemic disease from an Eresian traveler.
  • Raba went to the village, met Ord and cured Ur.
  • Ur has ever since become Raba's apprentice.
• Shannoa is attacked by a titano.
• Geis visits Iska Village.
• Bell of Freedom conspires a revolution against the Romun empire but failed.
  • Their leader, Margot was captured and thrown in Balduq prison.
• The new Romn Emperor, Marcus Claudius Garmanicus, was crowned, and start his touring around the empire.
• Cardinal Lindheim is appointed as the Governor-General of Gllia. He pacified the revolution and chaos in Balduq.
• Romun military police Euron boarded the Lombardia in search of the Nameless Ripper.
• Events from the travelogue Periplus of the Goethe Sea.

c. 22-23 AC

• End of the Romun-Altaginian war.
• Anemona's soulless body was ends up in Rijndael's Antique Shop.

23 AC

• Aprilis found Anemona in the Rijndael's Antique Shop. Anemona's soul is awaken again.
• The bar that later become Dandelion went out of business.
• Grimwald Nox are activating again.
• Geis arrives at Canaan Islands.
• Adol become acquainted with Ladoc, Terra's father, Ladoc, and boarded their ship Tres Mares.
• Events from the travelogue Searching for the Winged Ones.
• Events from the travelogue Five Dragons of Altago.

24 AC

• Anemona started to sneak out of the Antique shop. Aprilis brought her into her fight in Grimwald Nox.
• The Hieroglyph Knights started to capture and imprison people for no apparent reasons.
• Lucien was put into the Balduq Prison under the guise of "extended leave."
• Credo's gift is awakened, and joins the Monstrums.
• Krysha visited the Shantytown and question the actions of the Pendleton family.
  • Krysha's gift is awakened. And she start to act as a chivalrous thief and scatter money in the Shantytown.
• Belger became the Warden of Balduq Prison. He started the search of the Monstrums.
• Cardinal Lindheim became missing.
• Adol Christin visited Balduq.
• Events from the travelogue Balduq's Prison. (See Events around Ys 9)
• Princess Eleanor/Iris is adopted by Cardinal Lindheim.

Post Adventure

c. 50-59 AC

• Adol Christin returns to his homeland, and starts writing down his travelogues.

63 AC

• Adol Christin completes his travelogue.
• Karja found some promised land for the Normans, but failed at something. Summoning Adol's help.
• Adol heads on to his last known adventure to the North Pole and never returns. It is presumed that he finally met his end.
