Ricotta Beldine (リコッタ・ベルダイン ) is introduced in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana as the mysterious girl who has been living on the Isle of Seiren with her foster father, Thanatos. However, she has lived on the island long before his arrival or the arrival of the castaways.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Ricotta is a little girl with tanned skin and vibrant yellow eyes. She styles her hair, which is a shade of green with orange tips, into pigtails held together by red hair bobbles adorned with green leaves. Her unique fashion sense includes a green denim skirt overall, crafted from the knowledge gained from various dressmaking books. She complements her ensemble with blue striped fingerless elbow gloves, purple fur cuffs on her wrists and ankles, cream-colored two-tone stockings, and a faux dark blue tail. Additionally, she wears a bead necklace featuring sharp teeth and a blue stone, carries a round water bottle attached to her thigh, pine cone earrings, and brown shoes. Around her waist, she wears a rose-colored sash and a brown belt adorned with a lion's head ring pull and a powder horn.
In battle, she can be seen fighting monsters with a twin whip mace.
Personality[]
Ricotta is a bright, inquisitive, and lively girl. With a deep understanding of the Isle of Seiren and its diverse Primordials, she showcases her curious nature which has driven her to study various books and documents that have washed ashore, enabling her to communicate with an impressive vocabulary. Within Adol's group, she holds the endearing role of the "little sister" and greatly enjoys Sahad's grumpy sense of humor. Embracing the newfound connections in Castaway Village, Ricotta cherishes the opportunity to meet new people and eagerly anticipates the prospect of exploring the world beyond the island's confines.
Background[]
The circumstances of Ricotta's arrival on the Isle of Seiren remain shrouded in mystery, and she has no recollection of her parents. During her time on the island, she found companionship and guidance in Shoebill, a giant bird, who fed Ricotta and protected her from beasts. While Master Kong, a colossal ape with an enigmatic presence, taught her how to fight and defend herself. In addition, she developed proficiency in dressmaking and the art of tea preparation through the countless books on these subjects that washed ashore. Upon crossing paths with Thanatos Beldine, Ricotta chose him as her foster father and together they reside in a modest wooden hut nestled halfway up Gendarme Mountain. Thanatos is also said to have taught Ricotta how to talk.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana[]
Ricotta encounters Adol's expedition group when she single-handedly scares off the Primordial Avalodragil by skillfully hurling Orichalcum darts at it. As they converse in her hut situated halfway up Gendarme Mountain, Ricotta reveals that her father, Thanatos, has been missing for a month. Since Ricotta saved Adol and his group from Avalodragil, they pledge to assist in the search for her father, prompting Ricotta to make the decision to join Castaway Village.
After rescuing Dana from the ruins of the Kingdom of Eternia, Ricotta and Thanatos choose to settle with the Lombardia survivors in Castaway Village. Alongside her fellow villagers, she valiantly defends the village against relentless monster sieges and contributes to the defeat of the Oceanus.
Ricotta plays a vital role in thwarting the recent Lacrimosa, and together with the surviving villagers, they construct a boat to escape the Isle of Seiren. Embarking on a voyage, she accompanies her father, Thanatos Beldine, as they explore the world. Eventually, a peace treaty is signed between the Romun Empire and the Kingdom of Altago, restoring safety to the seas. Subsequently, Ricotta and her father venture to central Afroca, known as the Dark Continent, yet their current whereabouts remain unknown.

Trivia[]
- Ricotta is an Italian whey cheese, and the word itself means "recooked."
- A Greek cheese that is very similar to ricotta named "Anthotyros" is manufactured in Crete (analogue of Creet, a place mentioned a lot throughout Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana).
- She might be a reference to A-qing (阿青 meaning "Green"), female protagonist in Sword of the Yue Maiden. She was a teenage girl who has learned sword fighting from a white ape.
