Iskan Fever

Iskan Fever (イスカ (ねつ) ?) is a deadly illness endemic to Altago that's poised to become an epidemic.

Overview[]

Background[]

Those afflicted by this strange, incurable disease suffer from sudden seizures, high fevers, asthma attacks, and the slow petrification of their extremities. Its causes are unknown, and a gradual, painful demise is its only prognosis. There does exist a special medicine that can suppress its symptoms to some extent, but thus far, no cure has been found. The residents of the Old Town slums of Altago City are particularly vulnerable as they cannot afford the medicine which can help slow the spread of the this debilitating disease.

The name Iskan fever comes from the Iska tribe's name.

Ys SEVEN[]

Adol and Dogi first encounter Iskan Fever when they meet Cruxie. She falls over after succumbing to the symptoms of the illness, prompting Aisha to help.

Later on, the group come to find that Maya has the illness as well, but her condition is more serious as her hands and feet have begun to petrify. Doctor Daleyon explains that he knows how to mix the medicine that treats Iskan Fever, but an ingredient called the Scarlet Crystal is needed. Unfortunately, a merchant called Zanzibar has a monopoly on the supply of Scarlet Crystals and is selling them for an unreasonable price, attempting to squeeze every penny possible out of all the customers that desperately need it. After gathering information from Doctor Daleyon, the group and Tia head to the Old Waterway to obtain Scarlet Crystal, and eventually Maya's symptoms are suppressed with the medicine. During a meeting with Scias shortly after, Aisha reveals that her father King Kiemarl has also been afflicted with Iskan fever.

When Geis takes the party to the hidden village of Iska, acting Elder Ciarius reveals that Iskan fever is a disease caused by severe imbalances within the body, causing high fevers and petrification. The broken balance of Altago itself that is affecting the bodies of its inhabitants. This imbalance is caused by the dwindling faith in the Five Dragons of Altago, ever since Edona's invasion of Iska.

After the Five Dragon of Altago and the Root of All Existence disappeared, Iskan fever is gone along with them.
