Captain Barbaros (バルバロス (せん) (ちょう) ?) is the red-bearded captain of the Lombardia.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Captain Barbaros is a middle-aged, imposing man with red hair and yellow eyes. He wears his hair in a ponytail and also has a moustache and short beard. He wears a white cap, a white neckerchief under a red sweater with an emblem, a long white jacket, black pants, and reddish-brown leather shoes.

Personality[]

Despite his imposing appearance, he is actually a cordial man who treats his passengers with the utmost respect. His loyal crew holds him in high esteem, and his passengers place their confidence in him. On the Isle of Seiren, he demonstrates his true potential as a leader by taking full responsibility for the castaways' safety.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana[]

Captain Barbaros travels the seas with his crew on the Lombardia, heading from Xandria to the continent of Eresia. He employs Adol and Dogi in exchange for boarding his ship, and is also paying them for their service.

Later on, Barbaros asks the presence of Adol into his deck to share the stories of the mysterious Isle of Seiren. He enjoys Adol's spirit as an adventurer and would gladly accompany him to the isle if it is only possible. Before he dismisses Adol, he orders him to be part of the security that will patrol the perimeters of the ship at the night of the festivities. During that night, the ship is attacked by the Oceanus, causing it to get destroyed and for all of its passengers to somehow drift ashore the Isle of Seiren.

After Adol and Laxia find Captain Barbaros on the island, the Calm Inlet they passed prior is declared as their retreat, named Castaway Village. They turn it into a village with the Captain overseeing most of its operation, while Dogi is tasked to manage, construct, and improve the village's structures and its defenses.

During the investigation of the Nameless Ripper, the Captain falls into a trap set by Kiergaard Weissman, fatally wounding him. In the Captain's final moments, he asks Adol to get all the castaways off the island alive. His remains were buried in the higher cliffs where Shoebill stands by.
